Remembering My Niece Stephanie Spears

Donation protected
Tuesday evening, December 11th, my niece Stephanie was rushed to the emergency room by my nephew, Stephanie's husband, Troy... she was suffering immense abdominal pain and felt just horrible overall. Troy Jr (8) and Anazelli  "Z" (7), their young son and daughter, were home in bed, with Grandpa watching over them.

The hospital gave Stephanie pain medicine and sent her home; surmising that she had a stomach bug that would pass.

Once the pain medicine subsided, Stephanie's excruciating pain returned and within 24 hours Troy again rushed her to the ER. By this time her health was much worse. Fever of 110 degrees (no exaggeration), blood sugar count over 600 (no previous diabetes diagnosis nor blood sugar issues) and a white blood cell count off the charts, signalling her body was fighting an infection.

Doctors and nurses immediately began a wide ranging barrage of antibiotics and other medicine to combat the unknown infection, the fever and the high blood sugar.

Stephanie began to respond right away. Within a couple hours her fever was gone and her blood sugar was down in the 200's. But there was still no understanding of what was causing this high white blood cell count and the broad spectrum antibiotics assault continued; Doctors and nurses searching for an answer.

Very early the next morning, Friday December 14th, Stephanie collapsed. She became unconscious and unresponsive; to sustain her life, life support medical equipment was deployed.

Within hours it was suspected that she may have lost all brain functions.

After thousands of prayers and tears, a myriad of tests, and 24 hours of her family, friends and prayer warriors everywhere praying and agonizing, it was indeed determined that Stephanie had lost her brain functions and that the medical equipment was all that kept her alive.

Late Sunday afternoon, December 16th,  with her husband and children, mom, aunts, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and friends... her immediate world... at her side, Stephanie was taken off life support. She passed away at 8:43 pm Mountain Time.

What a tragedy.  We are devastated and heartbroken; why and how could this happen?

Please help us support this young family in this great hour of need. Please give if you can; whether you can give or not, please re post and send this message to everyone you know, Remembering & Honoring Stephanie.

And please, hug your family. Tell them you love them.  Remembering Stephanie, let's not take life for granted.

Thank you & God bless you,
"Unc" Uncle Tim
