Our beloved Amgad passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 26th, 2021, due to complications from an unexpected brain aneurysm he suffered early in the year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Adrienne Kong, her son Adam Lin, his mother Soheir, his brother Ayman (wife Noriss) and his beloved Aunt Samia, plus many loving nephews and nieces.
Originally from Egypt, Amgad spent his formative years in New York. Along with his love of the New York Knicks, he will be remembered for his incredible kindness and a lifelong passion for all kinds of food and wine. An accomplished career in fine dining, Amgad was proud to work with some of the world’s most acclaimed chefs, serving as General Manager of numerous famed establishments such as Morimoto, Michael Chiarello’s Bottega, Hakkasan, Spruce, The Fifth Floor, the dining room at The Ritz Carlton, Sushi Ran, Felidia and many more. He loved working in the restaurant industry, making many lifelong friends of both colleagues and clients, and even met his wife Adrienne while working at Sushi Ran over 15 years ago. Amgad made deep impressions with many mentees who continue to follow the professionalism, warm heartedness, and attentive care that Amgad provided to his patrons throughout the US.
Amgad also had a great love of travel. He searched for the perfect copper pot in Paris, the perfectly balanced saltiness of serrano ham in Spain, earthy truffles in Italy and in more recent years, explored delicious eats throughout Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore with his family. Amgad will be remembered for his easy smile and eagerness to help improve any situation, his humbleness, and his unparalleled love of salt and lemons. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends, family, and colleagues and clients in the restaurant industry.
What's happened this past year:
Amgad suffered from a trio of devastating ruptured brain aneurysms in January, and as a result, fell into a coma. He was later transferred to a long term medical facility in Sacramento where Adrienne visited him daily, despite the long distance and COVID protocols. Although he could no longer communicate, Amgad would respond to Adrienne's voice and recordings of his friends and family with smiles.
How can you help?
Of course, Amgad would want you to enjoy a lovely meal and a nice bottle of wine in his honor, and share your favorite memories with the rest of his friends and family.
If you are able to and would like to help out Adrienne in this difficult time, it would be greatly appreciated. Due to the complexity of the medical system, we are still in the process of determining the extent of Amgad’s total medical expenses from the past year, but expect them to be substantial. Additionally, we have incurred nearly $35k in legal fees to handle the whole situation through the courts. Any assistance you choose to share with Adrienne will go towards medical bills, legal fees, and other expenses. Any contributions are greatly appreciated in this difficult time for Adrienne.
Is there a funeral?
There will be funeral services taking place on Monday, January 10th, at Alta Mesa Memorial Park at 695 Arastradero Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94306. The services will take place in two parts, one part indoors and one outdoors.
The indoor chapel service starts at 10:30am. If you would like to attend and/or say a few words, please email wahbahousehold (all one word) at gmail (we can't write it as the actual gmail address or it will get scrubbed on gofundme's side) to let us know so we can make sure there's space for everyone that would like to come. The graveside service will be outdoors and starts at 1:30pm. It is estimated to be about 30 minutes. Due to COVID, a reception will not be held and masks are required. We ask that all attendees be vaccinated.
In lieu of flowers, please consider helping Adrienne with medical, legal, and other expenses related to his care via this GoFundMe campaign.
