Remembering Alice's Life of Giving
Donation protected
On Christmas evening, my Grandmother, Alice, was suddenly rushed to Franklin Square after her oxygen monitor warned of dangerously low readings, despite being on continuous Ox. Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to stabilize her. She was then transported to Union Memorial where her condition only worsened.
At 3:05pm on Saturday, December 28th surrounded by love, moments before we were going to end the life support and her suffering, her heart stopped beating on its own and she peacefully transitioned into her next life at just 68 years young. Less than 72 hours passed between arriving at the hospital and her heart failing. Alice had a long history of COPD and Emphysema (and other serious conditions), at the hospital she was diagnosed with COVID, pneumonia, sepsis, shock and multiple organ failure. Due to her per-existing conditions, her organs could not fight through the illnesses.
Grandma was always showing me how to pour into community, always giving food, running food pantries, praying for folks who need it and even those who didn’t. She was a pastor for some time, and was ordained and loved to bring people together. Grandma had so much love and silliness to share. Now, I am asking the community that she poured into for years to help us give her the “see you later” that she deserves. Due to her heath, she was disabled and on a fixed income, and couldn’t afford life insurance. She’s leaving behind a home and a sweet dog, Ladybug, and medical bills of an undetermined amount. My family is in shambles trying to pick up the pieces, and find a way to cover her funeral. Any donation is greatly appreciated ♥️
***Service dates will be announced upon finalization***
UPDATE: Her husband is now sick with the same Covid strain that made Grandma decline so rapidly.
The family has chosen to have her cremated and plans to hold a celebration of life after the dust of this heartbreak settles, and family is healthy again. I’ve reduced this funds goal amount to reflect immediate costs of bringing Alice Chiveral home to us.
We are so thankful for the friends and family sending us thoughts of healing and peace. If monetary contributions are not feasible, we understand. Please consider sharing anyway.
UPDATE 2: We have 24 hours to give the Board of Anatomy $900 to cremate her. Time is of the essence and we really need all of the support we can get. Please share if monetary donations are not possible. Thank you
UPDATE 3: Because of the kindness of friends, family and even strangers; we have collected enough funding to move forward with cremation!!!
Tomorrow, her body will leave the hospital and have one last stop before she’s brought back home to us. We owe her a celebration of her life full of food, fun and love. Any funds over the cost of direct cremation will go towards the remembrance service. Again, we cannot express enough gratitude to the people who shared and donated to help us reach our goal. Thank you all, stay safe and healthy in 2025
