Remembering Alex Hermosillo

Donation protected
After a year-long battle with leukemia, Alex Hermosillo passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was 43 years old.

Quick to laugh and never without his gracious smile, Alex was an HHG team member for over ten years; he led the landscaping team and was in charge of looking after all the Southern California restaurants as well as our corporate office. There was no problem too big for Alex: need that tree removed by Saturday because it was a hazard? He knew somebody that could do it the next day. An elaborate list of plants needed for a new restaurant install in 6 weeks? No problem. Broken irrigation? Handled.

He was often in his car all day, leaving his home across Los Angeles every morning at 4 am to be wherever he needed to be, only to be back in traffic to get home each night. I'd bring this up to him often and ask him: "Alex! How do you do it?" With his trademark chuckle, he'd tell me it was a good time to catch up on what happened in sports that day and anyways, his family loved their new home in San Bernardino: "you should see my backyard!"

I think often of the chats we have had over the years-- endless amounts of parenting advice, planting advice, and that omnipresent sunny outlook on life. He adored his kids, his wife, his parents, hip-hop music, the Dodgers, and a good tequila. He was kind, gracious, an incredibly hard worker and was ever generous in spirit.

He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Adriana, as well as his four children, of whom he was so proud: Alexes (20 years), Ariana (18 years), Alejandro (13 years), and Adriana (10 years).

When I asked Alexes to share something about her dad, she wrote, "He was a loving person with great morals. He taught us always to stay humble, and was just an amazing dad and husband." And when I asked her for a photo of him, she told me, "he wasn't a big fan of taking pictures because he didn't want people to get jealous of his smile." Sounds about right.

Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards funeral costs and to support the family.
