#RememberThe400 Bus Trip to African Arrival Day
Donation protected
2019 marks the 400th anniversary of the first African landing in English North America. Help our youth make history while they learn history.
"Go back to where you started, or as far as you can, examine all of it, travel your road again and tell the truth about it. Sing or shout or testify or keep it to yourself: but know whence you came."
– James Baldwin, Go Tell it on the Mountain
The #RememberThe400 STL Youth Chapter has been selected by the City of Hampton to particpate in African Arrival Day 2019. The youth from St. Louis will join other youth from around the world to perform during the "I AM More" Youth event on Saturday, August 24th at Historic Fort Monroe, which is the very site where the first 20 Africans touched the shores of English North America in 1619 .
The I Am More: A RememberThe400 event is a for youth by youth event filled with interactive booths and performances. This event will dispel negative stereotypes society imposes on the descendants of slaves by celebrating the contributions black people have made the last 400 years. Our goal is to showcase our limitless potential and inspire young people to advocate for a more equitable future for all!
But we have to raise our own funds for transportation and housing. We have a bus and hotel reserved, but we need your help to complete the package.
Throughout 2019 the St. Louis Youth Chapter has hosted a series of workshops, presentations, and lectures at locations throughout the St. Louis region, including Eyeseeme Bookstore, Better Family Life, various middle and high schools, and Washington University. The culminating event will be a bus trip to Hampton, VA in late August to participate in the African Arrival Commemoration and the Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center Dedication.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means a great deal to us!
