Relocation and Legal Aid for Rose

Rose Wilson, a 19 year old college student and older foster care youth was attacked in her own apartment by a fellow tenant in her duplex and her unauthorized guests late last week in Germantown, Philadelphia after facing weeks of threats, intimidation, and harassment that was repeatedly reported and ignored or improperly addressed by police and her housing program.

This came to a head on Thursday night at around 10:30PM, and after a heated dispute through the door over alleged noise and multiple police calls, Rose’s power was shut off by her neighbor (seemingly to lure her out), where her life was then threatened by her neighbor and neighbor’s female guest. She was then physically assaulted multiple times— primarily assaulted by the tenant’s male guest who attempted to end her life in the duplex entryway. Once police arrived, Rose was uncritically and falsely characterized as the aggressor by the three assailants and arrested with no proper investigation due to the wound inflicted on the male perpetrator in self defense, in spite of Rose’s own injuries. This police negligence allowed the still-remaining tenant and her female guest to break down Rose’s door soon after cops’ departure, and vandalize and burglarize Rose’s home; resulting in over a thousand’s worth of stolen goods/damages to property, as well as taking her personal electronics, school laptop, wallet, only forms of identification and social security card— where a spending spree was then attempted on her cards in the hours following her arrest.
The parties responsible have since been protected and allowed to stay on the property with no repercussions, and Rose has been forced from her home and to find temporary housing after her bail was posted by her mother who lives out of the area.

Rose had contacted police and housing staff for help at least 3 times directly leading to the event in response to threats to end her life and recorded instances of suspicious activity, where Philadelphia police repeatedly assured her dispatch was coming, but did not send help until well over an hour later, at around 12AM Friday, when the assault had already occured. Rose was taken to a hospital with a bloody hand and body pain along with the primary male aggressor, where she was not checked for injuries nor were her apparent injuries documented in the police report (during a requested second hospital visit and examination, it was finally noted that she had a hematoma on the back of her head from being slammed against her entryway’s stairwell and multiple bruises across her body). Rose was sent to prison and charged with multiple felony counts, despite acting in self defense out of fear for her life. During this time her emotional support animal (ESA) cat was left alone without food or water for 24+ hours, with debris and open prescribed medications from the vandalization left scattered across the floor, endangering the animal and causing further distress and uncertainty as to whether her companion would still be alive after her release. Additionally, there was repeated entry into her apartment through the broken door, despite police and housing staff claims that the apartment was secured following her arrest.

This fundraiser seeks to provide financial assistance with:
- Obtaining legal aid for Rose to combat the unjust charges brought against her by the assailants, as well as seek legal options to hold the negligent Philadelphia Police Department and her housing program liable
- Finding new, stable, and safe housing and relocating
- Attempting to replace the numerous pieces of property and sentimental items destroyed and stolen
- Secure new forms of identification in order to find employment
- Assist with paying for college classes that she had been forced to drop in light of this traumatic event, as well as her school laptop being stolen and losing access to her work
Rose is the sweetest, most creative girl, and recovering from this unimaginably traumatic event with little to no provided support from the systems put in place to protect her, and she has still shown resilience through everything. Please consider donating in contribution to recovering and rebuilding her life.
