Relocation & M.S. Support for Lisa

Backstory

My mother, Lisa Marcoux, met her partner Chris in 1999. Chris lived in the Netherlands and my mom lived in the U.S., but for 15 years they made a long distance relationship work, each traveling to visit the other once per year. I can hardly remember a time that Chris wasn't in my life. Together, they explored the world and made countless beautiful memories.

After my younger brother graduated from high school, my mom was finally able to move to the Netherlands in 2014 where she and Chris were so excited to start their lives together living under the same roof.  She passed all of the language tests necessary to become a permanent resident and had plans to apply for her residency in March 2019.

Unfortunately, not long after she moved, my mom was diagnosed with progressive Multiple Sclerosis which has taken it's toll on her body and mobility, leaving her lower limbs and right arm completely numb, and leaving her unable to work. Chris took responsibility as her sole provider and caretaker. He was responsible for her living expenses and medical care, most recently buying and designing a house to accommodate her needs and allow her to remain as independent as possible.

On October 11, 2018, my mom was woken up by the police knocking on her door to find out that Chris had died in a car accident that morning at the age of 42, not even 10 minutes away from home.  Having had his own health problems, it was believed that he had a seizure and drove off of the road. She and Chris were not married and were not a registered couple, and because of this, she has no legal rights, no income, and must return to the U.S. within the next month. The house is left unfinished and must be sold.

My mom has not only lost her partner of nearly two decades, she has also lost her home, health insurance, and her quality of life is severely at stake. On top of grieving the death of someone she loves dearly, she is having to worry about how she is going to survive. In the face of this tragedy, any help is welcomed and greatly appreciated.
