Please help Cheryl Paswater and Nadia Eran relocate after a fire

As many of you know, in the early hours of Thursday, October 17, Cheryl's and Nadia's apartment building caught fire, destroying three floors, including theirs.  Miraculously, they and their cat escaped unharmed, and while the content of their apartment was spared, the unit itself is currently uninhabitable due to smoke, ash, and to the demolition of surrounding units. They are currently living with a friend.

Many people have reached out asking how they can help, including monetarily.  This GoFundMe campaign is intended to help them secure a new apartment, either temporarily or permanently, as well as to pay legal fees.  (They may fight to terminate their lease  and move permanently, or move temporarily, until it is safe to move back in, once demolition has been completed.)

Thank you everyone who checked up on us, provided support in all the ways including research, financial support, talking to council members, helping us connect with lawyers and more.  After a week of running around and talking with a lawyer and NYC departments, we have made some progress. Fire alarms were finally installed in the building hallways (for those of you who didn’t know, no alarms went off during the fire).  And we’re working on legal action for us and other tenants in the building who were impacted.  We learned today that the smoke has decreased by more than 50% and we think air quality inspector can help us figure out which air purifiers can help get the apt to 100% safe. Once we pass air quality test and electrical inspection (origin of the fire on our floor according to the fire dept), we think we can move in and finish up legal challenges. If we move home, anything extra in this GoFundMe campaign will be donated to our 2 neighbors who completely lost their apartments. Thank you everyone - we could not have done this without you.
