Virgin Gorda was completely devastated by hurricane Irma. It was one of the smallest islands hit by the Category 5 hurricane, experiencing sustained winds of 220 mph and a recorded high wind speed of 275 mph. Which locals now think were mini tornados spinning off from the mass turbulant winds.
The people on the island need help desparately. 95% of roofs were damamged or completely blown away, and many homes are not standing. This has left many jobless, homeless, and cooking in primative ways. One-third of the people have fled the island, and the ones remainding don't think the island will recover completely, if at all.
This is a humanitarian crisis.
But there is much we can do.
Everyone we've heard from in Virgin Gorda is incredibly positive. They are all working hard to do whatever they can. These are people who ask for nothing, but share everything.
Derek and I have immediate contact with construction teams and suppliers who can send down food and water, and much needed tarps and building material. Everything we raise will be for the people of Virgin Gorda, to help them now. Food. Water. Purification Systems. Generators. Chain Saws. Medical supplies. Roofing material. Whatever they need...
Please help the people in Virgin Gorda anyway that you can. Share this charity link! Spread the word! Every dollar helps! As we raise money, we will continue posting so you can see what's happening. Thank you for opening your hearts...
Let's Relight Virgin Gorda!
