The evening of August 7th, Stephen Dunlap was in a motorcycle accident after hitting an object on the interstate. He sustained severe injuries to his left leg and has since received three operations where surgeons manually reconstructed his left foot, femur, and knee with metal rods and screws. Due to the severity of the injuries, the doctors and Stephen have decided that their next step is amputation from the knee-down. This will take place next week, and he will begin physical therapy with a new prosthetic limb shortly thereafter.
Stephen is the oldest of the 8 Dunlap children, and his family and girlfriend have been right by his side throughout the whole process. The Dunlap parents, Steve and Connie, and their children are the strongest, most selfless, and generous people I have ever met. They have personally welcomed me into their lives, as well as foreign exchange students and anyone seeking help. They live a life led by their faith, and treat everyone as one of their own. The Dunlap's are extremely tight-knit, and support each other no matter what it may require or what they may have to sacrifice. As the eldest, Stephen is a walking reflection of the family's values, a strong and protective older brother, and a devoted son.
Stephen's journey is far from over, and I want to help relieve some of the financial pressure from Stephen and the Dunlap family so they can focus on what really matters-recovering from the amputation and moving forward. In addition to the expenses of the three operations prior to his amputation, he will need to purchase a prosthetic and undergo a substantial amount of physical therapy that insurance will not cover. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and will go directly to this incredible family. Thank you.
