Relief to Earthquake survivors in Turkey
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
My name is Mazhar Adli. I am an associate professor of Molecular Biology at Northwestern University, School of Medicine. My home country, Turkey, was hit by two major earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.6 magnitudes last week on Feb 6th, 2023, affecting ten cities populated by ~15 million people. So far, over 40,000 people have lost their lives, and the death toll continues to rise.
My immediate family in Northeast Turkey (Erzurum) is Ok and was not directly affected. However, hundreds of thousands of other families, including some that I personally know in Adiyaman, have been devastated and are dispossessed of everything they once had.
This fundraising aims to provide immediate relief to some of them who have been displaced to other cities. The housing and living expense of one family is ~$5,000/year in Turkey. My goal is to raise $15,000 to help with the immediate living costs of the families that I personally know who has been displaced from Adiyaman to Ankara and support the educational expenses of their kids, some of whom are senior high school students. I believe helping kids through academic scholarships is one way I can make some difference in their lives in the long run.
I am asking for your help, and I will be grateful for your support. I will update all donors periodically on how I spent any funds that I raised here.
Thank you.
