As many of you will know, my brother Yale and his family (Maren, Wynn and Waverly) followed their dream and moved to Kangaroo Island, South Australia almost 10 years ago.
Fires have been ravaging their gorgeous island. In the early morning hours of January 10th, Yale’s vineyard, The Islander Estate Vineyards, was devastated by the fire. The vines, vineyard equipment, irrigation system, water supply, shed and farm house were all destroyed. They managed to evacuate most of the 2019 stock the day before, but it is uncertain if and when the next vintage will be.
Yale is so passionate about the vineyard and business and is doing everything possible to keep it going and keep his staff employed. They are saying the best way to help them survive is to buy their wine! However, their wine is not currently available in the US. If you want to help them directly, your donations here will provide funds to support the cleanup and recovery process. To give you an idea of some of the costs: to remove the dead vines alone will cost upwards of $50,000 and to replant is $30,000 per acre. They lost 25 acres. These costs are not covered by insurance.
If you want to learn a little about his vineyard, check out the website at www.iev.com.au
Thank you for any support in helping Yale rebuild!
