I am hopefully dreaming of helping my parents Robert and Susan Farnsworth. They are in their 70s and my 5-year-old nephew lives with them. They are suffering horribly. PLEASE, help me help them. Since the end of April, my parents have been living without air conditioning. If you live in southern Nevada, you know that this means that they have spent the summer in DANGER of many health problems due to excessive heat. During the multiple heat warnings we have had this summer, I have seen my parents suffer from symptoms of heat exhaustion. They both have multiple health problems. I have also recently seen my nephew struggle with getting homework done because he gets so hot, tired, and off task. My mother can't work because of her health issues and my dad works long days in the heat at almost 75 years old for minimum wage. Basically, my parents are destitute and can barely fill up their cars with gas. Times have been desperate for them for the last 6 years at a time in their life where I wish nothing more than them to enjoy their lives happy and carefree. It seems it may be too late for that wish of mine to come true but it would be amazing to at least know they are living in a healthy environment and were able to not worry about making ends meet just to take care of themselves.
So back to the air conditioning fiasco, my parents have paid American Home Shield approx. $60 per month for 10 years and they WILL NOT help them despite months of efforts on my parents part. In summary of the events, American Home Shield dispatched "A&R Complete Service" seven times (they didn't have another company option). The same company diagnosed multiple problems including adding freon (my parents paid $75 for the service fee and $140 for the freon), bad compressor, fan needing replacement, new compressor, and contaminated freon (so who the heck contaminated it other than the company that has been on the roof all summer)? They told my parents that they need to pay $700 to replace the freon. My parents refused because 1. they don't think they should have to pay to replace something that was obviously the fault of another, 2. they do not have $700, and 3. how can they guarantee it will even work this time? Pursuant to their policy, they are allowed to get a second opinion so they paid another gentleman from a different company $40 to diagnose a problem, and he told them that there is a restriction in the evaporator coil.
They have called AHS over and over and have retold the story each time. They have asked to speak to a supervisor or an underwriter and they will not put us through to anyone just new people with the same promises. One time, they were supposed to have a call back in the next day or two, never happened. Another time, they said they were going to dispatch a team to make an update within 24-48 hours and no one called. Another time, they stated they were going to do a report against the company AR because 7 times was too many times to come. They also said, they were going to make a report to the contractor's relations team and they would call within 24-48 hours. No one has EVER called them back through this whole ordeal.
We contacted "Contact 13" and they are willing to help but cannot do anything until the insurance commissioner investigates which takes 20 days or more from filing. I have a feeling this will be another long haul that will not be resolved until well into fall/winter. So......HERE IS MY MISSION....I would like to raise around $7,000 so that my parents can get a brand spanking new AC unit!
We still plan on fully resolving the legal issues but I hope that we can just get them settled with a well-working unit and then they can battle out the rest after the fact.
So...there is the awful synopsis that has been wracking my mind for months. After all my parents have done for me, I hope I can do something for them with the help of our friends and loved ones! Thank you in advance!!!
