If you have not lost your job due to the COVID-19 crisis, and you are able to work from home, are on salary, or are in any position to make even a small donation, your support will make a difference to workers by providing them the monetary means to pay their bills, pay their rent or buy groceries during this time.
Hundreds of restaurants, coffee shops, and catering companies have all shut down or drastically reduced hours due to the COVID-19 crisis, leaving thousands of Oakland food service workers unemployed and without means to pay their bills + rent!!
In some cases, businesses—including restaurant kitchens—have continued to operate, leaving their staff with the unfair choice of risking their health/their family/their community’s health and safety in order to work for pay, without offering paid leave for those who cannot work.
All food service workers living or working in Oakland, CA impacted by the COVID-19 crisis + shutdown are encouraged to apply!!
PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO: BLACK, INDIGENOUS AND OTHER POC, UNDOCUMENTED, UNHOUSED, DISABLED, LGBTQIA+, OAKLAND/BAY AREA NATIVE FOLKS.
***Workers who do not live/work in Oakland, CA but live/work in a nearby city (Berkeley, Richmond, San Leandro, Hayward etc ) are still encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to Oakland residents but special circumstances will be considered. ***
WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS?
We are a group of Oakland food service workers lead by BIPOC + QTPOC womxn and non-binary people who have been drastically affected by the COVID-19 crisis, the Bay Area shelter-in-place and statewide business closures.
We represent hourly workers including bussers, hosts, dishwashers, line cooks, servers, baristas, prep cooks, and more.
It is our mission to support, uplift, and aid fellow Oakland food service workers and their families during this global pandemic.
WHAT WILL THE ORGANIZERS DO WITH THE FUNDS?
We are aiming to raise $103,000 so that we can dedicate 100% of our goal of $100,000 to supporting individual workers and their families in need through cash relief. The extra 3k represents the GoFundMe fees that are charged on 100k. By including this extra amount, we can ensure that we can distribute 100k in cash relief to our accepted applicants.
We will allocate funds in a standardized way based on urgency and criteria met. As we reach closer to ensuring we meet our goal of 103k, we will release our model for payment structure. Our goal is to deliver cash relief as fast as possible, —based on urgency and priority criteria met— in denominations of between $100 - $1,000.
Our applications will be reviewed by a diverse group of peer leaders to ensure fairness and the priority of urgent needs.

Si no ha perdido su trabajo debido a la crisis de COVID-19, puede trabajar desde su casa, tiene un salario o está en cualquier posición para hacer incluso una pequeña donación, su apoyo hará la diferencia que algunos trabajadores pueden hacer, pagar sus cuentas, alquilar, o comprar comestibles durante este tiempo.
