On Tuesday morning, September 8th, the Alameda Fire started in Ashland, Oregon. High winds and dry late Summer conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly through the valley swallowing up homes and businesses in neighboring Talent, and by the afternoon evacuation orders had been issued for Dan and Kim's neighborhood. With very little time to prepare, they grabbed what they could and started to evacuate, with Kim in one car and Dan in his work van. Kim noticed that Dan had pulled over so she pulled up to see why. When she got to him, he said that he thought he had just had a heart attack and called 911. Some people stopped to assist. They got him out of his van and began CPR, then the EMT's arrived and took over. They rushed him to the hospital where a team of doctors and nurses tried their best to bring him back but he was already gone. Our dear friend Dan Tilton passed away that afternoon.
Since then, the fire that burned through Pheonix, Oregon has been contained and Kim has been able to go to their house which survived the blaze. But, as is often the case when people pass away without time to prepare for it, Dan did not have a will. All of the assets, bank accounts, and deeds for the properties that he and Kim had acquired over the years are now locked up in probate, and Kim will have to work with a lawyer to regain access to everything. Without access to those assets she is currently operating at a deficit and needs our help to get everything sorted out. The money raised through this fundraiser will be used for Kim's legal and living expenses. They will help her get back on her feet and moving forward with her life during this difficult grieving process. Anything that you can do to help will be accepted with the deepest gratitude.
My name is Matthew Staley and I am working with Kim's daughter Theresa Martinez to raise money for Kim's legal and living expenses while everything is in limbo. Dan and I have been friends for almost 20 years. Dan was one of those people in my life who always had my back no matter what. When my house caught on fire several years back, he was there before the fire department. Whenever I needed advice he was always there for me. He always believed in me. So today I am showing up to help out his wife just like I know he would have helped mine if the tables were turned. I miss him so much already.
