The fragility of life is so very precious and in the blink of an eye, without a moment’s notice, it can all change…
On the morning of Friday, October 22, 2021, at approx. 11:28 a.m., our family member, friend, and colleague nearly had it all snatched away in the most heinous manner. James, creatively known to many as “J Mulla” and occasionally “JJ”, while out on his lunch break, had the absolute misfortune of being the backseat passenger of a vehicle that was involved in a devastatingly life altering accident with a semi truck near DeKalb, Illinois. Although James made sure he applied his seatbelt upon entry into the car, that did not prevent him from suffering considerable trauma and significant injuries that have indeed made this the worst experience of his life. For many of us, we are unable to recall the events of the last few days, however, for James it's not quite that simple; these last twelve days have been critical as he's battled for his next breath in ICU.
When the accident occurred, James was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony’s hospital in Rockford, IL because his injuries were ominous. He has since undergone multiple surgeries in an attempt to preserve his shattered hip and leg bones. Continual efforts are being made to restore the damage caused to his punctured lung as well as contusions to his kidney and liver. Nothing short of a miracle allowed for survivors from this tragic accident. James’ injuries are extensive and the road to recovery will be arduous. Per James’ medical team, there is no doubt additional surgeries will be required. Full-time/long-term care will be a mandated requirement. It will take our fervent prayers for a full restoration along with a herculean effort from the “Jackson Village” to see James, Carla and Sam through the days, weeks, and months ahead.
From the onset, Carla and Sam as well as the Jackson Village have been making daily trips back and forth to Rockford, staying overnight, and doing whatever is necessary to see to James’ well-being. Although the insurance piece is being managed as best as can be under the circumstances, there are expenses for James that will surely exceed stated coverages. In addition, the expenditures Carla and Sam are exhausting on transportation, lodging, and meals as they traverse back and forth to Rockford are a responsibility the Jackson Village would like to remove from their plate as they care for their youngest heartbeat. This has been an overpowering emotional rollercoaster for them over the last twelve days and whatever solace we can provide would certainly be a welcome calm. Let’s seek to aid them in whatever way we can. Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Jackson Village through the GoFundMe email link provided. Thank you and God’s eternal blessings to all.
