At around 1:10 a.m. on Monday July 27th, 2020, Captain Mikaelyan of the Armed Forces of Armenia sustained a fatal gunshot wound at the outpost of a military unit stationed on the border of Armenia, from a sniper rifle fired by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
Ashot Gevorgi Mikaelyan was a devoted husband to his wife, Suzy, who is expecting their first child. As an Armenian woman whose heart breaks for her nation and countrymen fighting on the frontlines and as a part of the Mikaelyan family, I write this with a heavy heart on behalf of Ashot's loved ones in hopes of gathering a relief fund for his wife and unborn child.
Ashot was born August 26, 1991 in Vanandzor, Armenia and raised alongside his brother solely by their mother. Both grew up to join the Armed Forces of Armenia to honor their country. In 2016, Ashot had fought in the April War defending Nagarno-Karabagh and surrounding regions from Azerbaijani attacks for territorial gain until a ceasefire was reached.
Ashot’s family and friends speak highly of his courage, character and personality. Ashot was devoted to his country and his family. His loved ones recall how loving he was and how he always tried to make everyone around him happy and laugh.
On July 12th, 2020, Azerbaijan’s military violated the United Nations' appeal for global ceasefire, and aggressively attacked the Tavush village in Armenia.
Since then, the state of Azerbaijan has consistently made numerous threats and committed war crimes against Armenia. They've made threats to bomb the Armenian nuclear plant, targeted and attacked civilian structures and populations (including schools and mask factories), made over 260 ceasefire violations within one week and incessantly strive for war.
These war crimes and attacks on Armenia have continued to escalate, resulting in the death of many heroic Armenian soldiers.
To Hero and Captain Ashot Gevorgi Mikaelyan, on behalf of all Armenians, we thank you for your service and devotion to your nation and people. Thank you for sacrificing your life to protect us. May you Rest in Peace, Ashot.

27.07.2020 թ.՝ ժամը 01։10-ի սահմաններում, հակառակորդի մարտական դիրքից դիպուկահարի կողմից արձակված կրակոցից ՀՀ ՊՆ N զորամասի պահպանության տեղամասի մարտական դիրքում կոկորդի շրջանում հրազենային վնասվածք է ստացել պայմանագրային զինծառայող Աշոտ Գևորգի Միքայելյանը: Զինվորական հոսպիտալ տեղափոխելու ճանապարհին նա մահացել է:
