May 10, 2020, the world celebrated the Mother's Day and on May 12, 2020, there was a massacre of young mothers. On the blessed 19th day of holy Ramadan, Afghanistan became the victim of yet another barbaric and heinous attack on the most innocent group that claimed the lives of innocent civilians and left many severely injured. Three gunmen dressed in police uniform entered a maternity ward and started shooting on women who had just given birth, were during labour or had brought their children for vaccination.
Newborn babies as young as 1 hour old were severely injured and some did not make it alive. The total reported casualties are 16, more than 80 have been severely injured.
Our ground personnel has located the families of the 3 victims who were martyred today and have left behind young children. These families were already living in poverty and this tragedy has left them motionless.
Through this campaign, we will be providing financial assistance for funeral expenses, medical expenses and food packages to the survivors and their families. We will also be providing formula for the newborns. Children Without Borders is a registered non-profit organization with the vision of eradicating child labour in Afghanistan as well as providing financial, medical and educational assistance to the poverty-stricken families.
