My name is Dr. Janell Wright, an Emergency Medicine Physician based in Aventura, Florida. I was born and raised in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica — the island’s beautiful “breadbasket” parish.
On October 28th, Hurricane Melissa ravaged my home parish, leaving heartbreaking destruction in its wake. The communities of Black River, Parottee, and Spice Grove have been especially devastated — homes are completely underwater, roofs torn away, crops washed out to sea, and even hospital wards are flooded.
Families are displaced, roads are impassable, and many are running out of food, clean water, and essential medications. Our fishing and farming communities — the lifeblood of Jamaica’s food supply — are in urgent need of help.
Plan:
My team and I plan to be on the ground beginning November 6th. We will be delivering direct relief to the community.
We are bringing immediate assistance of:
• Non-perishable food and clean water
• Essential medications and first-aid supplies
• Hygiene kits and baby supplies
• Materials to help secure homes and roofs
- Generators and WiFi connecting devices
All the monies obtained from this campaign will be used to help purchase these items. Some items will be bought in the United States and most will be bought in Kingston, Jamaica and be taken directly into affected communities.
Every dollar donated will go to helping the people of St. Elizabeth recover.
This community has given so much to Jamaica and the world. Now it’s our turn to give back — to help them rebuild, recover, and return to the vibrant life they’ve always known.
Please donate what you can, share this link, and stand with us in love and solidarity.
With gratitude and hope,
Dr. Janell Wright
