My name is Michael, and I am the Resident Manager for Kihei Kai Condominiums in Kihei, Hawaii. On March 13, 2026, the recent Kona flooding destroyed the building where I lived and worked. This disaster has left me without a home and without a job, and the future feels uncertain. The Maui government has not yet declared the flooding an Official Disaster, so FEMA has not allocated any funding to support those of us affected. As a survivor of the 2023 Lahaina Fires, this is the second natural disaster I have endured on Maui in less than three years. While I am grateful that I did not lose all of my personal belongings this time, the loss of my home and income means I am unable to cover basic living expenses such as food, car insurance, gas, car payments, or phone service as of the end of this week. I am currently seeking relief for both financial and housing needs, and I am doing my best to stay hopeful as I search for new opportunities. Many of my friends and family were incredibly supportive after the 2023 Fires, and I was very hesitant to reach out for help again. But at this time, I must at least ask for help. I appreciate any support that might be offered—whether it’s a donation, a suggestion for housing or employment, or simply sharing my story. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Mahalo.
