Everyone, meet Maya! She is a sweet, spunky, and full of life 5 year old quarter horse that is in desperate need of help.
While I was helping to evacuate Maya from one of the areas effected by the fires in northern CA, I discovered that she was limping pretty badly on her left hind leg. I monitored her for a day and decided that the leg should be examined by an equine veterinarian. I took Maya to Western Performance Equine in Ione CA and they performed an ultrasound and X-rays. The tests concluded that she has a significant tear in her meniscus on the inside of her left hind leg and a fractured tibia. I was heart broken to hear this news as she is such a young and sweet girl with loads of potential.
Her previous owners, unfortunately, do not have the funds to care for her during this difficult time and are struggling with the very arduous decision to have Maya humanely euthanized. I have decided to take over her care and rehabilitate her as I believe she deserves the best chance at living a happy and healthy life.
The vet indicated that with checkups every 60 to 90 days and stall rest, she should make a full and complete recovery. The money raised will help to pay her board of $450 a month, and the regular vet checks she will need that range from $600 to $800. I cannot fathom the idea of putting her down when Maya can continue to grow and thrive the rest of her life happily and comfortably.
Unfortunately, I alone, cannot afford her medical bills, stall care and rehabilitation. She is currently at a wonderful facility, in a nice barn with lots of shavings so she is comfortable. I am reaching out to you for a contribution towards her medical bills, care, and recovery. After she is rehabilitated, I would love to find her a loving home.
