My name is Lorelei Bradley. As suggested by my many loved ones, I have decided to create a GoFundMe in hopes of some medical expense help.
I recently turned 19 and have spent around 7 years battling the unknown. I have been hospitalized and seen by multiple specialists for abdominal and pelvic pain with no reasoning for why it's occurring.
Two months ago, I finally was able to get seen by a gynecologist and endometriosis specialist and was scheduled for surgery as his findings were quite severe.
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pelvic pain, painful periods, discomfort during intercourse, and can sometimes lead to infertility; it is in the top 10 of the most painful illnesses globally due to its often debilitating and persistent nature.
I have my laparoscopy, surgical with excision of lesions surgery tomorrow, March 3rd, 2025. This surgery has a 70% chance of improving my daily life and granting me relief. However, endometriosis is incurable and because I am young, the likelihood of it coming back is heavily increased, meaning I will likely need multiple more surgeries and will have to take prescription medication daily to help manage pain.
Regarding finances, the initial consults are hundreds of dollars, followed by thousands of dollars for surgery, around $30,000. If not properly removed, it can travel anywhere—the heart, lungs, and brain even—and it's common for people to need bowel resections. It increases the risk of things like ovarian cancer. Sadly, my health insurance is very limited in coverage for my surgery and I have a lot to pay for. I have been working two jobs to create a stable income for myself but now most, if not all, of my money and time is being put into this disease and surgery itself.
Anything is helpful and I will be forever grateful. Thank you for taking the time to at least hear my situation.
If you're curious and would like to know more about my story in detail: At 15 years old, I was suggested to go on birth control to help regulate my heavy bleeding and extremely bad cramping. My cramps would leave me stuck on the bathroom floor crying, while on many different pain medications that wouldn't make a dent on my pain scale. The first form of birth control I was suggested to use by a primary care physician and ended up getting was a Nexplanon implant. Most forms of birth control should be used for at least 6 months to a year and can start regularly working after 3 months of constant use. I ended up keeping the Nexplanon in for almost an entire year. This year was miserable for me; I still continued to have my horrible cramps, sometimes even worse pain than before I had the Nexplanon in. I also was constantly bleeding a heavy amount almost every day of every month in the year, which initially led to me being suggested to get the Nexplanon taken out as they were worried I would become anemic. At 16, I went to see a gynecologist for the first time and was then instructed to try another form of birth control. They recommended an IUD because it tends to be way more effective and would be way less maintenance on a daily basis, as it lasts for years. I then, without ever having a Pap smear or anything, was given the Mirena IUD. For me, this was very invasive and overwhelming; however, I went through with it in hopes of a better way of living and less daily pain. Following getting the IUD inserted, I was cramping severely and was nauseous, leading to me constantly throwing up. I continued to have the IUD for almost 9 months until my cramping became so bad I was told to get an internal ultrasound where they found 6 small cysts on my left ovary and 2 large cysts on my right ovary. My gynecologist, concerned, had me take out the IUD 2 weeks later. I was instructed at, now age 17, to start taking the birth control pill. I took this for about 8 months but ended up coming off it because I found no change in my heavy bleeding, cramps, and it was causing more PMS problems for me and worsening my mental health.
