Hi, my name is Alex Nemeth, and I am a friend of one of the tenants affected by the fire that destroyed a multi-family home in Bay City on July 5th.

I know there are at least three households affected by the fire, and the goal of this Go Fund Me is to raise at least $2,000 dollars per family, to be provided to them as a cash donation at the end of this campaign.

edit: As these folks work to put their life back together, I've been in contact with some family members of the victims, and I will pass on what they've shared with me about the extent of the damage, who has been affected, and the immediate reluctance of the insurance companies to provide the help the victims' policies were meant to provide. 
I now know, for instance, that the other tenant upstairs, next door to my friend, was her brother: meaning one family almost lost two adult children, and are now trying to pick up the pieces of not one, but TWO disasters.

I have also learned that the downstairs neighbors are a young couple with three small children, including an infant and a toddler.   After the past year and a half that many of us have had, I can hardly imagine a worse situation for a budding young family to be faced with:  the destruction of their home and personal belongings during one of the worst economy and housing market in recent memory. 

I've been told by the upstairs family that they are currently fighting to get the tenants' insurance to cover the damage from this disaster.   As anyone who has been in a similar position knows, it may take months to see any positive impact from a disputed insurance claim, and these families need help, NOW.

All funds raised in excess of our $6,000 goal will be divided equally among the three households affected by this disaster.
