Hi everyone,
This is not something I ever imagined having to write, but here we are.
Over the past several months, my partner Michael and I have been dealing with ongoing health and habitability issues in the home we’re renting. What began as persistent sewage odor in one bathroom escalated into recurring pest activity, moisture concerns, and environmental findings that ultimately led us to obtain an independent mold and moisture inspection at our own expense.
The report documented environmental conditions consistent with prolonged moisture intrusion. During this time, I began experiencing significant health symptoms including tachycardia, respiratory irritation, skin reactions, and neurological flare-ups. I was formally diagnosed with multiple chronic conditions shortly after moving into the home, and my physicians have since reviewed the environmental findings as part of my medical record.
After repeated written notice and inspections, the underlying issues were not resolved. With my health continuing to decline and no clear remediation plan in place, we made the difficult decision to terminate our lease under Arizona’s health and safety statute and secure a new place to live.
We are now facing overlapping housing costs, moving expenses, inspection fees, medical appointments, and lost work time. None of this was planned. None of it was budgeted.
We are asking for help to cover:
• Moving costs and deposits
• Environmental testing fees
• Medical appointments and documentation
• Temporary overlap in rent and utilities
• Lost income due to health impacts
• The very real possibility of being brought to court
If you’re able to contribute, we are deeply grateful. If you’re not, sharing this page means just as much.
This has been one of the most stressful periods of our lives, but we are determined to land on our feet in a safe and healthy environment.
Thank you for reading. Truly.
— Jenn & Michael
