My name is Jack Schiefelbein and I own a hotel in Cedarville, MI with my cousin Jeff Lipple, where we’ve been blessed to have 17 different Jamaican J-1 students live and work over the past two summers.
On October 28, Jamaica endured what weather.com described as the “strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in Jamaica (Category 5)” with “a maximum sustained wind speed of 185 mph” and “peak gust recorded at 252 mph.”
Homes, stores, churches, and more have been destroyed, with thousands displaced and 32 lives taken in Jamaica alone. Countless families are currently without clean water, food, basic hygiene, power and more.
These Jamaican students have shown more kindness, strength, and work ethic than I can describe. Now it’s our turn to show them our support. This week I am in Jamaica delivering supplies and meeting with our team members and their families to understand what they need most.
How You Can Help:
Donate any amount. Every dollar truly matters. A 50% match will be contributed for every donation up to $68k ($34k max) to help push for our ambitious goal of $102,025. The number itself was chosen to honor Jamaican Heroes’ Day (10/20/25) and celebrate the courage and resilience of the people this campaign supports.
100% of funds go directly to these 17 Jamaican families and their local communities. I’ll keep this link updated and post photos/videos to document specific projects. One of these is partnering with House of the Prophets Healing and Deliverance Ministry to distribute 300 hundred care packages that we will drive and distribute to St. Elizabeth and Trelawny on Saturday, November 8. Additional examples may include structural improvements to homes in these Parishes that were damaged so much that they are now unlivable.
Thank you for supporting Jamaica just as they have supported and will continue to support our rural community, along with small businesses across the entire U.S.
