My name is Greg, and I’m reaching out because I recently had to undergo an emergency appendectomy and partial omenectomy. This happened unexpectedly, and other health factors have made it even worse. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder when I was a teenager. I had it my whole life but I never knew what it was until it was diagnosed. The best way I can think of to describe it is to imagine your worst fear and the feelings that come with it, feeling as if your whole world is crumbling but not know why you feel that way and having no relief from it day after day. It only grew worse as I grew older, and it has had a debilitating affect on my daily life and on my career. It has cost me jobs that I loved and created a financial burden for me and my family. The last year has been one of those times. Not having a job means I lost my health insurance, and we cannot afford to put me on my wife’s insurance, which would cost us more than $1600 a month. My hope and prayer was that I would get another job before an emergency arose. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. I had to go to the emergency room three times because they could not figure out why I was in such excruciating pain, and I had two separate CT scans done with no results. These trips to the ER and the multiple scans added to the financial burden of having to have surgery. The bills have exceeded $30,000. We fall just above the limit to qualify for financial assistance, meaning without a job we cannot afford payments on the hospital bill and pay our monthly living expenses.
