Relief for Greg Metz a diabetic amputee

Donation protected
In January 2021 my father Greg developed an ulcer on his left foot. The infection spread within days and resulted in the amputation of two toes and a portion of the side of his foot. After being in the hospital for two months, he was sent home on IV therapy with two pic lines for antibiotics. For 6 months my stepmom Yvonne cleaned, dressed, and scrubbed his amputations. His left foot was nearly healed when he became visibly sick and began developing another ulcer on the opposite foot behind his big toe. Yvonne rushed him to the emergency room to discover the antibiotics had caused him to develop Sepsis. With both the combination of Sepsis and the ulcer spreading, it became a life or death situation resulting in a below-the-knee amputation.
After being sent home from the hospital three days after his amputation, he is still sitting in the same spot the ambulance dropped him off in. Prior to leaving the hospital, he had been told that Home Health would be coming out regularly to change his wounds and continue physical therapy and get him into a prosthesis. No one ever came. They were informed that their Ohio Medicaid stopped immediately after leaving the hospital and Home Health would not be coming without insurance.

THREE MONTHS have passed and he has been confined to a power chair, too weak from the lack of physical therapy to even transfer to a bed. His only activity is scooting to a bedside potty, only possible with the assistance of his wife.

For over nine months now, Yvonne has been solely taking care of Greg unable to work. She has reached out to many agencies for assistance but has been mostly met with resistance. It is becoming difficult for them to buy essential items needed for everyday living. They are waiting for South Carolina's disability insurance and Medicaid to kick in, but with Covid, the wait has been much longer than anyone could have ever expected.

Hospital bills are piling up, and they are unable to get him to his surgeon for follow-ups, physical therapy, or anything else. To make matters worse, as it is the start of a new year their HOA (lot rent) has become due and without approvals on disability, they are unable to promise payment. Once he does eventually begin receiving care, insurance does not cover any of the expenses for the modifications that will be needed to make their house wheelchair accessible. An outdoor chair lift will be needed, modifications to the bathroom, etc.

I created this GoFundMe with the hope that donations can help them keep a roof over their head. The price of a coffee, resharing on your social media page, a prayer; support of any kind would truly mean the world to my family.
