Despite being faced with a cancer diagnosis last year, my Mom and Devin did their best to start 2020 on a positive note by getting married.
Surgery was followed by chemotherapy, which was quickly complicated by Covid-19 restrictions, job loss, and of course hair loss. The CZU Fire hit in August, displacing them for 2 weeks while my Mom underwent her final treatments of radiation.
Finally emerging from the crucible of 2020, which had become a 'new normal', along comes the wind storm of 2021. Unusual winds clocking in at 85mph tore through the Santa Cruz Mountains, sending the top 30 feet of a giant Douglas Fir crashing through the roof of their cozy Mountain Nest at 3:30 AM - fortunately missing their bedroom by inches. Their home sustained complete roof devastation and some structural damage from the fallen tree. A lot of repairs will have to be made in the coming weeks.
Still reeling from a year of deductibles and co-pays, this latest addition to their struggle is taking a toll on them and their finances; putting them in this unfamiliar and uncomfortable position... and they are a little tired.
I am writing this to share their story & hopefully gift them some relief. Any amount raised that is not needed for their repairs will be donated to a local Santa Cruz Disaster Relief Organization.
I will be sharing this primarily on Facebook. Please feel free to pass the link along anybody who may be able to help.
Thank You❤️
