The exact cause of Relapsing Polychondritis (RP) is not known. However, it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system starts attacking its own healthy cells believing them to be foreign.
RP can be life threatening, debilitating and difficult to diagnose and prognosis is variable, depending on organ involvement and treatment complications. Where the disease is mild or responds quickly to treatment, there is a good prognosis.
We have set up a patient led, Global Support Group for all those affected by RP. It is a very active group who share daily their experiences, knowledge and support to others dealing with Relapsing Polychondritis.
Our main aims are:
- Helping others who may be without support or information about the condition
-Giving reassurance to others through our own experience
-Raising awareness of RP amongst the medical profession and the general public
-Providing a forum for exchanging knowledge and seeking further information
-Signposting to helpful resources
-Providing a listening ear when needed.
The Administrators of the group are volunteers.
