Support Reji's family on his journey to recovery

On Dec 2nd 2023, an unforeseen tragedy occurred to Reji Varghese, 42 years old, while he and his family were attending a cultural event in Rockland County, NY. Little did they know that this tragedy was going to alter their lives forever.

After his daughter’s performance, Reji went outside the event hall to answer a phone call , and told a friend he would be back shortly. After some time, Reji did not return and so his friend went to search for him and to his shock found Reji lying on the concrete pavement after falling. After getting up, he seemed to be conscious and oriented. Healthcare professionals on the scene advised his family to monitor his condition for the next 24 hours. 12 hrs post-fall he became disoriented and confused. 911 was called immediately and he was taken to NYP-Lawrence Hospital where his condition became more critical and was put on the ventilator.

Imaging of his brain revealed that Reji was suffering from subdural blood clot (hematoma) and his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was emergency transferred to Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx to evacuate the blood clot (hematoma) via a craniotomy procedure on the left side of his brain.

Post surgery, Reji was unable to recognize his loved ones and was still in a critical state. After being in observation for two days, his family was informed that Reji’s brain was swelling and that a craniectomy needed to be done for brain decompression on his left side. His skull was removed to be placed back at a later time.

After two surgeries Reji is physically stable, however, his speech & cognitive abilities have been severely impacted. A once social and talkative Reji is now unable to communicate his thoughts properly. His condition necessitates intensive speech and physical therapy. Additionally, he will soon have to undergo a third surgery, a cranioplasty, to place his left skull back on. Currently he is undergoing inpatient rehabilitation at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, West Orange where he is fighting hard to regain his ability to speak, walk, and function normally.

Reji and Sonia are a beautiful young couple blessed with two young daughters, Rheya (12 years old) and Serah (5 years old) and is the only son of his aging parents. Reji is a very hardworking, talented and kind person who is ready to lend a hand in any situation with a smile on his face.

With extensive surgeries and his skull still left open, he is advised not to travel and to work. He was the sole breadwinner of his family as he is on H1B status, which limits his spouse from working. The weight of medical expenses, including the upcoming surgery, ongoing rehabilitation, and the costs associated with daily living activities, such as having a home health aid, has placed an immense burden on his family.

In this time of adversity, we appeal to your compassionate hearts. We kindly request your support to help alleviate the financial burden faced by Reji's family. Your generous contributions will enable them to cover the necessary ongoing rehabilitation and medical expenses to ensure a brighter future for Reji and his family as he continues to rebuild his life from the ground up.

Together, we can sow the seeds of compassion and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Reji and his family.

We sincerely thank you for your consideration, kindness, and unwavering support. Your contribution, no matter the size, will be a beacon of hope, healing, and resilience for Reji and his loved ones. Please forward it to your friends and families as that would be of great help and assistance to someone who is in dire need.
