Reid’s Fight Against Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Donation protected
As many of you may have heard, Reid was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at the beginning of May. It was a gut punch to us all. It feels unfair, overwhelming, and exhausting—but in true Reid fashion, he’s kept his spirits high and his signature sarcasm fully intact!

Reid is currently receiving treatment at UW Medical Center and Fred Hutch in Seattle. His care includes intensive chemotherapy—specifically a 5-day inpatient round of “G-CLAM”—along with every other day transfusions for a month following. He will do this regimen at least two times, followed by a stem cell transplant upon completion of chemotherapy. Because of the rigorous treatment schedule, he has to stay in Seattle full-time for the foreseeable future.

During this time, Reid is unable to work and will be living away from home. Anna is traveling back and forth to support him while also caring for their kids. Alongside her, my parents and I will be taking turns as Reid’s caregivers while he is in Seattle; he’ll need someone by his side at all times.

As you can imagine, the weight of financial strain is significant right now. Between lost wages, hospital bills, temporary housing, and travel costs, it all adds up so fast. While it’s not easy to ask for help, we know how much love surrounds Reid, and we’re leaning on that community now more than ever to help support Reid, Anna, Aima, David & Dax.

If you’re unable to donate financially, I ask that you do your best to be a little like Reido. Play backyard baseball with your boys after work. Take your wife on a date. Go to a rock concert with your daughter. Have a beer with a friend. Crank the music and have a dance party. Or just simply show up and love your people.

Thank you for all the love, support, and prayers so far. They mean the world to Reid and to all of us standing beside him.

We’ve also created a CaringBridge site to keep everyone updated on his journey. Things change quickly with this disease, and this will be our main way of keeping friends and family informed.
