Rehoming Iris’s Fluffies

On August 18th, our beloved Iris left this earthly world far too soon. It is difficult to capture Iris’s legacy in a few short paragraphs; she was a person so full of life and love that she touched people around the world with her passion for ancient Egypt and especially for animal welfare. When her chosen career in law was stolen by chronic disease, Iris moved to Egypt and soon became involved in animal rescue.

Over time she rescued and cared for countless animals in the many locations she lived in. Iris wrote a book in both Arabic and English for children to help teach them about animal welfare, knowing that the seeds of change would come with the next generation. A great joy for Iris was leading workshops for children with the books as she was a natural and gifted teacher. When the pandemic struck, Iris was deeply concerned about the plight of the dozens of cats living on the temple island of Philae, where without the tourist traffic they were slowly starving to death. She gathered her forces and fundraised to create a supply chain to send regular shipments of cat food south to Aswan. Now, three years later this project continues because of Iris’s efforts.

Iris had many beloved rescued cats and dogs of her own who are now in need of new homes. We are working hard to make sure that each of them finds a perfect place to live out their life in a loving home.

We are fundraising now to make certain that her beloved animals will be able to find their way to their new loving homes in the US, the UK and the Netherlands. Our goal is to raise $30,000 Canadian (approximately $21,000 US / €20,000 / £17,000) to cover the costs of transporting the animals to their new homes. Any funds which might be left over will go to fund Iris’s other heart projects such as the feeding of the Temple Cats of Philae, a project we hope to carry on in her memory.
