Sasha and Alona are a young married couple from the eastern side of Ukraine. Their region was invaded early on in the war. Although the invaders were eventually pushed back, Sasha and Alona still live very close to the Ukrainian/Russian border, and danger always feels imminent. Since the beginning of the war, Sasha has had very little work available to him. Alona has chronic health issues that need ongoing medical attention. The current conditions in Ukraine are, at best, difficult to live in. Because of the attacks on the electric grid, electricity and heat in the cold of winter are very sporadic. Living costs have skyrocketed. Jobs are difficult to find. And of course, the fear of invasion is always on their minds.
Given their stressful circumstances, Sasha and Alona would really like to move to America to live in a peaceful setting without fear of war and for an opportunity to begin a better life. Sasha and Alona are incredibly hopeful and excited about the opportunity to move to America under the Uniting for Ukraine program. Sasha has extensive experience with installing solar panels and hopes to obtain a job in the same field here in America. Alona hopes to find a job as well.
As with any big move, there are a lot of expenses. Sasha does not have any extended family to fall back on, as he grew up in an orphanage. Alona's mom and dad are loving, hardworking parents, and have helped this young couple to the extent that they are able. But Sasha and Alona are coming with basically nothing and need financial assistance with moving to America. They will need money for travel, for the first month or two of rent, for a car, and for their initial basic living expenses. Would you be willing to help this young couple as they start a new life?
