Emma and Craig Layfield are two of our teachers in Lagoa and Almancil. Their daughter, Elvie, was celebrating her 18th birthday at school when she tragically shattered her leg, specifically her tibia in 5 places, whilst jumping in a sandpit at Lagoa school. Emma was instructed to take Elvie to the nearest private hospital and informed that the school’s insurance would cover the costs. The complexity of the operation meant that the cost was 16,000 euros. The Layfield’s had to pay this upfront before any operation took place but did so with the assurance that the school would cover the cost. Unfortunately after the operation, the school informed her that there was a 10,000 euros liability limit. Leaving the Layfield’s in a financial hole and plenty of ongoing rehabilitation costs to come. Globeducate has offered to pay an extra 3,500 euros, which has still not been paid and still leaves the Layfields at least 5,000 euros short, once rehabilitation is finished. As parents we need to support our teachers when Globeducate has failed them. We have setup a GoFundMe for Elvie, can I ask that you contribute to the fund for the Layfields? Even 5 euros per child contribution is enough to cover this cost.
