Rehab at Spaulding

Update on David:
He is home and working hard with Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Because of the thoughtfulness and generosity of so many, he was able to stay at Spaulding Rehab much longer than we thought possible. It made a difference.
We've been busy renting a ramp, hoyer, walkers, canes, specialized bathroom toilets, shower wheelchairs and many other specialized equipment (hand splints, bionic hand gloves), etc. to make his life more accessible and livable. He continues to improve slowly and we pray he continues on that path.
We thank God for his faithfulness and so many friends and family for their emotional physical and financial support. God bless each and every one of you.

David suffered a heart attack 8/21. Then got MRSA & sepsis at Beth Israel which led to a catastrophic stroke. His left side is paralyzed but we are optimistic that with more time in rehab he will improve quicker & permanently. You only have 6 months from stroke to get it back ; we are 1 month in. David is making progress but insurance is ending ; currently bill is $148,000 before insurance pays their portion.
We are trying to raise funds for him to stay at least one -two more weeks ($4200/day) so he can transition home instead of into what they call a skilled nursing facility (a nursing home!). He will regress there and will be unsafe. The care is sub human and Covid and other infections are rampant.
update: We lost our appeal for more time. Insurance no longer covering. Appealing final decision.
David deserves better after serving this country in Vietnam , two tours , then State guard and as a Major in the National guard.
David has spent his life serving others. With project innocence he even freed 3 different men wrongly accused who served over 50 years collectively.
He’s helped neighbors , friends and strangers alike. He’s never asked for help in 75 years. But now he is in need for the first time.
Every donation helps. Both small and big.
It is our plan and hope to bring him home. We just need to give him at least 2-3 more weeks at Spaulding to bridge the gap. Even then we will work with the VA to obtain the items we need. ( wheelchair , ramps , hoyer , shower , nurses , PCA, occupational therapy , physical therapy ). It’s a long road ahead and we tried to do it on our own. But 43 days in and we are throwing up the white flag for help.
in the midst of it all , the water heater blew ($4200).
God bless.
