Our beloved grandfather, Regino Arellano Bugay — also known as Tatay — has spent his 86 years working hard, loving his family, and facing life’s challenges with strength and faith. Born and raised in Tapulao, Orani, Bataan, he spent his younger years fishing in the open sea — even through dangerous typhoons — and later farming to pay for his children’s education.

Our Bugay family has already faced heartbreaking losses. In 2008, his youngest daughter, Agnes Bugay, passed away at the age of 37 from lupus after 10 years on dialysis. In 2020, his eldest daughter, Constancia "Ching" Bugay, passed away at the age of 54 from stage 4 colon cancer. Through every heartbreak, Tatay still found the strength to keep going, finding joy in simple things like playing ping pong, watching basketball games, and joining local senior marathons.

A few weeks ago, Tatay suffered a massive stroke that left two-thirds of his brain damaged and the right side of his body paralyzed. He is now in the ICU, taking medication to control swelling in his brain, battling pulmonary disease, dependent on a ventilator, and in need of a tracheostomy tube to breathe.

Our family is heartbroken and facing overwhelming medical bills. The hospital requires partial payments as costs continue to rise and in order to continue medical treatment. We humbly ask for your help — whether through donations or sharing this page — so we can give Tatay the care, medications, and therapy he needs.
