Kim and Reggie met in church in May 2009. He followed Kim outside and told her that God had told him to stick with her because she would be his angel and that is exactly what she turned out to be.

On January 2, 2023, Reggie said he couldn't breathe. Kim called 911 and when he saw the ambulance coming up the street, he said "thank God", with his last breath before collapsing. His heart had stopped and was not restarted until 14 minutes later when he arrived at the hospital and he was placed on life support with a severe brain injury from not receiving oxygen for those 14 minutes. On January 16th Kim, alongside Reggie's family, made the difficult decision to take him off life support and say goodbye.
