I’m starting this Go Fund Me page for a friend, Regina Zwiener, her husband, Pat, and their children, Lillian and James.
In 2013, Regina was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a rare kidney disease. At that time, doctors informed her that both of her kidneys were shutting down and that she would need a new kidney in 5 to 10 years.
The following summer, Regina went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she had a biopsy done on one of her kidneys. At that time, the doctors told her that she had only 2 to 5 years before she would need a kidney transplant.
In April of 2016, Regina learned that her kidneys were failing. In May, doctors told her that they had no choice but to start dialysis. At the end of June, Regina had surgery to have a dialysis port placed. In July, she started training to learn how to do home dialysis and was put on a transplant list.
And then, on July 30th, prayers were answered and Regina got a miracle: there was a transplant match! Through the grace of God and the generosity of an angel, Regina received a new kidney!
Three weeks after Regina’s kidney transplant, Regina was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently going through chemotherapy and will have surgery in January 2017 to remove the cancer. Following surgery, Regina will go through radiation.
Regina has been a hard worker. Even though she knew her kidneys were failing, she kept working. She worked up until doctors placed her dialysis port, and was planning to return to work as soon as she healed from having the port placed. After she received her new kidney, doctors told her that she could return to work in eight weeks.
And then--cancer. The doctors have told Regina that she will not be able to return to work until June of 2017—that’s an entire YEAR without work. Regina’s husband, Pat, works full-time during the week and has now picked up a part-time weekend job to help with finances.
To help make up for lost work and to help keep Regina and her family afloat, please consider a donation.
This Go-Fund-Me page is a call to help restore Regina’s health and to help her, Pat and their children face the future with more hope.
Regina faces this journey with gratitude and grace, and looks forward to returning to work once she is well again!
