On the 20th Sept 2025, Molly and my brother Oliver welcomed their beautiful son, Reggie, into the world. For three months, Reggie was in an ongoing critical condition, before passing away peacefully on the 29th Dec.

Our newborn son, Reggie, had been in intensive care at Auckland City Hospital since birth after being diagnosed with myotonic dystrophy, a rare genetic condition.

For three months, we did everything possible to keep him alive. Reggie required ventilation to assist in training him to breathe independently, underwent surgery to drain fluid from his brain, and suffered brain damage, which significantly complicated his condition.

We held onto hope that he would recover. However, over the past week his condition has deteriorated rapidly. Reggie began experiencing severe cardiac arrhythmias, with his heart rate reaching up to 260 beats per minute. Medical staff were required to intervene to stabilise his heart rhythm. Despite these interventions, his condition continued to decline, and we were faced with the heartbreaking reality that allowing him to pass peacefully was the most compassionate and loving decision.

Saying goodbye to our son is a difficult and emotional process. We are seeking assistance to help cover the costs associated with his funeral, headstone and related services, as well as support to help us regain stability as we navigate this period of profound grief.
