Please help my friend after spinal injury
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sam and I'm fundraising for my best friend Karl.
He is 36 from N.Wales who recently suffered a spinal injury and is now in desperate need of a motorised scooter to regain his independence.
Karl has worked all his life, working for the local council for the past 16 years as a refuse collector which as you could understand is a highly physical job. He is now no longer able to work, leaving him stuck in his house day in day out. This is badly affecting his mental state.
Karl absolutely loved exploring and hiking, discovering new adventures every week, finding hidden waterfalls, rivers and beautiful scenes. This is one of the things he's missing the most. An All Terain Mobility Scooter would help him back out doing the things he loved the most.
Karl also has an amazing 9 year old son Mason, he is an absolute credit to him . As you can imagine Mason just wants his dad back happy and healthy, but unfortunately we don't know if he will ever be able to walk properly again nevermind play football or take him on the adventures he loved so dearly.
So Karl's injury is Spinal Stenosis and Cervical Myelopothy. He has had spinal surgery to fit a cage into his neck to stop further damage and regression. Unfortunately this surgery wasn't a fix all and the damage has already been done. He has no feelings in his finger tips and only partial use of his hands/grip. His legs receiving the worst damage, he is able to stand up and shuffle around a small area holding on to furniture but can no longer leave the house unless using a wheelchair.
To top this off after the initial damage to his spinal cord he ended up with 2 pulmonary embolisms in his left lung(blood clots) which could have proved fatal, so is now on blood thinners for life, leaving him in an even more vulnerable state as he's now also a bleeding risk if he falls.
He has little help in his day to day life due to family members also suffering with bad health and friends living a distance away.
I am desperate to see him out and about living life to the fullest and I truly believe this scooter is the key.
Please help us in reaching this goal . Give Karl back his much needed independence.
Thank you so much
