Refugio gatuno Miausata's cat shelter

Soy Daniel, artesano y vivo con mi madre en una casa de campo a unos 20km de Zaragoza, en el nordeste de España, en una pequeña localidad de 140 almas, llamada Mozota.

I'm Daniel, my job is craftmanship and I live with my mother in a country house at 20km (12 miles) from Zaragoza, in north east Spain, in a small town of 140 souls, called Mozota.

UNA HISTORIA DE BIGOTES // A STORY ABOUT WHISKERS

Todo comenzó con una gata silvestre que mis sobrinos llamaron Manchitas, y cada cierto tiempo le dábamos sobras de comida. Conforme fue pasando el tiempo, vinieron más gatos y de 3 platos hemos pasado a 12 para unos 23 gatos. Esto los ha mantenido cerca de la casa de campo en la que vivimos y es por ello que queremos destinar un espacio para que estas criaturas tengan una vida tranquila, sin embargo, para evitar la desmesurada proliferación y que en un momento dado puedan llegar a ser considerados "plaga", hemos pensado en aplicar el método CES (Capturar-Esterilizar-Soltar). Como no podemos contar con las autoridades para sufragar los gastos de operaciones, desparasitación y vacunas, es por ello que he abierto esta campaña para poder comprar las jaulas de captura y darles los tratamientos veterinarios adecuados. De hecho hay uno de los gatos al que llamamos Odín, que precisa una operación de ojo urgente. Con el método CES aplicado, no sólo los animales no se reproducirán sino que se evitará que se peleen y puedan malherirse.

It all started with a wild cat that my nephews called Manchitas, and from time to time we gave her food leftovers. As time went by, more cats came and from 3 dishes we have gone to 12 for about 23 cats. This has kept them close to the country house in which we live and that is why we want to allocate a space for these creatures to have a quiet life, however, to avoid excessive proliferation and that at any given time they could become considered "plague", we have thought of applying TNR method (Trap-Neuter-Return). Since we cannot count on the authorities to cover the costs of operations, deworming and vaccinations, that is why I have opened this campaign to be able to buy the capture cages and give them the appropriate veterinary treatments. In fact, there is one of the cats we call Odin, who needs an urgent eye operation. With the TNR method applied, not only will the animals not reproduce, but it will also prevent them from fighting and injuring each other.

En el año 1.113 de nuestra era, los musulmanes fundaron Mozota, que originariamente llamaron Mawsata y viene a significar "centro" o "en el centro". Por su sonoridad, pensé que Miausata podía ser un nombre original para nombrar el refugio gatuno.

Los gatos que se quedan alrededor de la casa están alimentados tres veces al día, desparasitados y tienen casetas para dormir. El dinero recaudado es para mantener el refugio, apadrinar gatos si no se pueden llevar a casa e incluso, si se desea, adoptar a los más jóvenes, que son los que rápidamente se adaptan antes a los nuevos lugares.

The cats that stay around the house are fed three times a day, dewormed and have kennels to sleep. The money raised is to maintain the shelter, sponsor cats if they cannot be brought home and even, if desired, adopt the youngest who are the ones who quickly adapt to new places first.

Dos epidemias de panleucopenia atacaron la colonia este año: la primera, se llevó por delante a Hueni, un siamés cariñoso e inteligente, e infectó a otros 5 gatitos de su generación, que gracias a las veterinarias, salieron adelante. La última epidemia de panleucopenia ha sido en Octubre y se ha llevado por delante a 4 de los 12 gatitos que no cumplían más de un año. Aparte del inmenso dolor por sus pérdidas, se suma un endeudamiento importante que estoy intentando recuperar, descontando la alimentación, las medicinas, las vacunas y otros gastos relacionados con la colonia.

Two epidemics of panleukopenia attacked the colony this year: the first took away Hueni, an affectionate and intelligent Siamese, and infected 5 other kittens of his generation, who, thanks to the veterinarians, survived. The last panleukopenia epidemic was in October and it claimed 4 of the 12 kittens that were under one year old. Apart from the immense pain of their losses, there is a significant debt that I am trying to recover, discounting food, medicines, vaccines and other expenses related to the colony.
