We love because he first loved us. There’s something about foster care and adoption that rings so true as a metaphor for our relationship with our heavenly father. That’s part of the reason why I’m working on a film called Refuge, it’s the story of a foster mother, and foster daughter and how their own painful pasts are each used to help the other heal.
Hi I’m Will Adams, I work at a church called Frazer in Montgomery AL as the director of creative elements. I’m also a film student studying online at the Academy of Art University , a regionally accredited school in San Francisco. I’m working toward my masters of fine arts or an MFA.
You can see more of my work here:
I’ve been doing film and video work professionally in some capacity for about fifteen years now and this year I’m working on a short film that will tell a powerful story of love and redemption. I’m currently refining the script with my department chair, three time academy award winning short film producer Jana Sue Memel . And I’m fortunate enough to be joined by up-and-coming indie film directing and producing team, my friends Clay and Tiffany Hassler who will adding their talents as director of photography and production manager respectively. In addition I’ve got a great crew, and casting is currently underway.
Films of any size can’t happen without financial support so that’s why I’m here. I want to make this story worthy of the gospel that inspired it. In doing so I want to make sure we have the right gear, the right people, and all the small details taken care of before we go to shoot this July. But I can’t do it with out your support.
What will your money go to?
First I’ll need to rent some film gear. I already have some great equipment provided by Frazer Church here in montgomery who is partnering with me in producing this project. But we need to rent cinema lenses and other rigging equipment.

Second we’ll need to pay for food and travel for the cast and crew. I have several crew members who have already agreed to help with the film at no cost, but to make that less of a burden for them I’d like to see to it that their meals and travel expenses are totally covered during this two week shoot.
Third it’ll go to paying shooting expenses. Everytime you see food on camera, every prop, and even costume pieces cost money. Some times we have to pay to use a location. There are lots of miscellaneous small expenses that will need to be covered.

Finally if we have enough, after everything else is covered I do hope to leave the option open to pay any members of our cast or crew as needed. Having this option means that we’ll be more likely to hire a few folks that will really up the quality of the project by bringing previous professional experience to the film
Your money will not be wasted. The budget is very tight and in the off chance we get more donations than expected it will be put directly back into the film to make it higher quality.
You may want to know what I’m investing in this film - fair question. Up to this point I’ve already put tens of thousands of dollars into my education reaching this point in the degree process, but aside from that, every penny that I can responsibly afford to give to this film will be given and in addition I’ll be putting more hours in on this project than anyone else before during and after production.
You probably want to know what do I hope to do with this project. I do plan on submitting to to several film festivals and see where that takes us, but before that we will have a special screening of the finished project here in montgomery and eventually make it available for online viewing. I do hope that it is seen as an encouraging, inspiring, challenging, uplifting, and yes entertaining display of truth for both christians and non Christians. If the project goes well it may serve as a test run for future projects here in Montgomery spearheaded by myself or others.
To clarify a few things: First, this is a donation, you are not purchasing anything and your donation is a non-refundable gift. Rewards listed on this page are volunatry and thank yous from the cast and crew and they are not guarunteed. You are not entering a contract with anyone regarding these rewards or buying anything. While you are not guaranteed anything in return, obviously I and all the cast and crew will be grateful and we plan to thank our donors in many ways during and after production, not the least of which being in the credits of the final film.
Secondly this is a donation to me, Will Adams, not to either my school or my place of employment. As such, unfortunately this is not a tax deductible donation.
If you have any other questions about the project or would like to volunteer to bring us a meal or be a host home for cast or crew during filming, please contact me through GofundMe or email me.
It’s stories that help shape the way people see the world. Stories break down barriers and help get to the truth of the matter. Stories are the way Christ shared the gospel with his followers and stories are the best way to reach people today. So thank you for your support. And thank you for helping us tell this story.
