Hi everyone, I'm fundraising urgently on behalf of my neighbours, Gurbaksh Kaur and Jaskaran Singh and their two young children who are refugees facing deportation by the CBSA on Friday July 23rd.
Gurbaksh and Jaskaran are beloved community members who have lived in Canada since August 2019. As refugees, the family fled India after facing political persecution, torture, extortion and false imprisonment.
In the past six years, they have become invaluable members of our community and have built a life here. They both work legally full-time and over-time as roofers and in the hospitality industry. They are extremely caring and hardworking people who believe in the importance of giving back to the community- on top of long hours at work they are active volunteers at the local Gurdwara. They have two young children, ages 12 and 5 who were eagerly getting ready to go back to school in September. They came to Canada so that their children could have a safe life free of violence and have exhausted their savings in legal fees, paying over $20,000.
As they face extreme uncertainty and stress, they are also facing financial challenges from the legal fees that they have had to pay. Any support for them would make a huge difference for them in supporting their young family.
