Dental Relief for Syrian Refugees

Donation protected

The Syrian refugee crisis has entered its 8th year now, leaving over 5 million Syrians still displaced from their homes. The world’s largest Syrian refugee camp - Al Zaatari - remains impoverished and continues to face barriers to access health services including dental care.  With poor dental hygiene and lack of access to dentists, these refugees are at greater risk for serious infections and chronic pain which can have a life-changing impact on them.

Non-profit Atlantic Humanitarian Relief has been trying hard to help alleviate the pain of these Syrian refugees , but they are still in need of volunteers. So this April, a group of dental students and faculty from The Ohio State University will be embarking on a trip to Jordan and join AHR in providing free dental care to Syrian refugees in Al-Zaatari Camp. Following each procedure, we will provide oral hygiene instructions and fluoride treatment to prevent future tooth decay.

But as students we cannot do this on our own and we really need your help to raise funds for these supplies and equipment. 100% of donations will go towards the trip expenses so that these refugees can get the treatment and care that they deserve.

Please donate generously and help us relieve the pain of Syrian kids who have been refugees for more than half their lives now. With better health, these refugees can have a better future!

Thank you so much for your help and support and share this with your friends and family!

Date of Service Trip: April 28th - May 2nd, 2019

Goals of the Service Trip:

1. Provide free oral healthcare (fillings, sealants, fluoride varnishes and more) to Syrian refugees who have very limited access to dental care

2. Deliver oral hygiene education and essential supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouth rinse) to children in the clinic and within the schools in the camp

3. Purchase dental supplies and equipment for the dental clinic to keep this clinic functioning and running for the Syrian Refugees.

Donations:

Your donations will be received by the Arab Dental Society at The Ohio State University. The funds will be used to help cover the cost of dental consumables and equipment, oral hygiene products for hundreds of kids, daily transportation from the hotel to Al-Zaatari refugee camp, and accommodations for 6 nights.  Any extra funds will be donated directly to AHR to help them continue  their mission. Additional funding may also be used to reimburse the volunteers for their flights from Columbus, Ohio to Amman, Jordan.

This initiative aims to provide oral healthcare, education and mentorship to those most in need (particularly refugees and low-income immigrants), both domestically and internationally, with a focus on an annual service trip to an area with limited access to healthcare services.

Atlantic Humanitarian Relief , Inc. Since then, AHR has organized biannual, week-long mission trips to Jordan to service refugees in various parts of the country. With a growing team of volunteers from every profession from physical therapists to surgeons, dentists to pharmacists and more, AHR unites people from all over the world to work in makeshift clinics, community centers and refugee camps treating thousands of patients each trip.
