Refugee Family Support

Donation protected
Updated 2/8/17
Hi all--
Thanks to everyone for your ongoing generosity and support of the Amin family.   (See the Backstory below)

Our next goal is to get them set up with transportation.  We have received the generous donation of a Mazda minivan from the family of one of Georgia's classmates. However, there are about $1500 in repairs needed to pass smog and put on new tires, etc.

If you are able to donate at this time, proceeds will primarily go toward these repairs.  (Any additional donations will be used for general expenses such as rent, utilities, food, supplies, etc.)

Thank you, as always.
Mike

Backstory:
At church on 1/29, some friends let us know of an Afghan refugee family in need of assistance in our area. They are a family of four: dad, mom, and two young children (a 3 year old son and a 5 month old daughter).  Hashmat Amin, the dad, served as a translator alongside the US military in Afghanistan, fighting against the Taliban for over 5 years. As a result, his life and the life of his family became endangered.  After several years of applying for refugee status, the family was finally able flee the country in mid-January. Unfortunately, they had to escape on very short notice, leaving behind brothers, sisters, parents, and nearly all of their belongings.

With all the recent attention on immigration, we wanted to offer a way for the community to say "you are welcome here.”  So we set up the initial gofundme campaign, and the response was beautiful.   Donations came in from across the country—including from friends old and new, near and far, and some from friends of friends who we don't even know.   Georgia also took it upon herself to tell the family's story in her classes at high school, and as a result received several kind donations, including the Minivan we are getting set up for them.

Throughout the process, the family has been incredibly gracious and grateful to receive this support.
