"We've been abandoned by our country and now I feel like we've been abandoned by God too"
- Refugee in Tenedba, Sudan
Since November 4th, 2020, Tigray (the northern most part of Ethiopia) has faced a worsening and dire humanitarian crisis. Government sanctioned genocide, disguised as politics, has been taking place and has externally displaced >70,000 Tegarus seeking refuge in Sudan, a country who did not have the infrastructure to support such a huge influx.
I was in these refugee camps not more than a month ago. As bad as the living conditions in these camps have been, they have deteriorated considerably with the rainy season. Continuous thunderstorms, heavy rains, and high intensity winds have destroyed much of the temporary shelters. In addition to this loss of shelter, floods have worsened the food insecurity. Needless to mention the concern for impending outbreaks such as waterborne diseases and malaria. Unfortunately, the response by UNHCR has been very disappointing.
In these dire times, I ask for your help. I have been working with Health Professionals Network for Tigray (www.hpn4tigray.org) to help rebuild these camps. My goal is to raise funds to HPN4Tigray's Sudan project. The goal is to reinforce the tents we can and rebuild sturdy shelters for the ones that need to be replaced. These shelters will cost ~$100/house. There are ~6000 tents in immediate need of reinforcement and/or replacement. Let's raise enough to build at least 100 shelters. Please support and let these people know that the we still care. That they're not alone!
How many shelters will you help build?!?
Much Thanks in Advance!!!
