Re-Float the Tiki Boat
Donation protected
Hello friends and fellow mariners,
I have some terrible heart wrenching news to share with you all from our team at Mirage Cruises…
On Wednesday Oct 16 2024 at around 8:30pm our beloved Tiki Boat, the Island Oasis, broke free from her anchor chains in strong winds, proceeding to then run aground along the Seawall on the north east corner. Her bow became stuck in the mud at high tide, then as the tide receded, she leaned on her side and slipped below the waters of False Creek, coming to rest upright with her stern on the bottom and her bow up in the air.
We have had an extremely bad run of luck this year after first being evicted from our boathouse at the Mosquito Creek Marina , mechanical issues, Maintenance issues, crew issues and personal issues.
We tried everything we could think of, but were ultimately unable to secure new moorage and were left with no other option but to keep her at anchor in False Creek and dinghy back and fourth to the shore.
This boat is irreplaceable to me. I have spent thousands of man hours personally, renovating and converting her from a rundown old 1975 houseboat to, just like the name says, an Island Oasis.
We are a new company and we currently don’t have access to the kind of capital we will need to lift, re-float and repair the boat. As well, due to the salt water, we need to hire a marine electrician, cleaners and a heavy duty mechanic to flush everything in the engine room.
Our Insurance policy is not going cover this incident so it will be entirely out of our pocket
Going out of business is a very real possibility for us before the start of next season.
it may not seem all that important to you but this boat is everything to me and my crew. It’s our life and our livelyhood!
The Tiki Boat has quickly become a famous vancouver icon and I hope we’ll continue to turn heads, brighten days and bring joy to others, everywhere we go.
Please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to check in to see how we are progressing or if you need any additional information.
Donations are welcome in any denomination and we are so grateful for your help! ❤️
