Reflection of Us
Growth. Progression. Maturity. All elements in which endure every moment and step in our daily lives. Sometimes it is realized, other times it is not. But nonetheless it is an essential part of humanity. Reflection of Us is a visual book that displays those elements. From the two perspectives of Louis Carr and Sterling Scott, both gifted and talented photographers in their own right, artists and friends, this title is a reflection of them as black men; how they see themselves, one another and to a greater extent other black men. This book pays homage to elements in black culture, as well as the profound respect and dignity that Carr and Scott have for who they are.

Benefits of buying during the presale:
Everyone who purchases a book during the presale will receive an autographed copy of the book signed by both artist as well as an 8x10 image not inside the book. You'll also be taking advantage of lower pricing. Once presale ends the cost of the book will increase.
Book signing and artist talk:
We want to meet as many of supporters as well can. This is why we'll be hosting a mixer that will include an artist talk and book signing. For those who purchase during the presale you'll be invited to a private VIP meet and greet with both artists and our special guests before the mixer begins.
About the artists:
Sterling Scott is a 24 year old Los Angeles native. Graduating from University of California, Santa Cruz in 2017, with a degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, Scott has returned to Los Angeles to involve himself in his local community, through healthcare while also as an artist, through photography. He hopes to continue to explore his creative endeavors through modeling and in the fashion world. He has volunteered at Aids Project Los Angeles (APLA), worked at a local hospital, photographed for the USC Black Alumni Association and began photographing friends in order to portray the beauty in people for who they are. Some of his more artist photos as model now hangs at the TAG Gallery in Miracle Mile, through collaboration with photographer Louis Carr and artist Lyle Rushing. Currently, Sterling teaches biology to high school students to continue his community involvement by engaging the youth. Taking into consideration his own age, he is able to build strong foundation and support for his students, encouraging them to seek out their dreams and realizing the work that it must take to achieve that. In order to change lives, he realizes that working in local communities helps to inspires others to take action. While staying true to who he his, Sterling hopes to accomplish all of his dreams in both medicine and art, understanding that the road the walks is not one that he can tread alone, but only make it with the help of others.

Louis “Kengi” Carr is a proud Southern California native, born and raised in beautiful Santa Monica. He’s a product of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and the University of Southern California. An avid street photographer, Louis has spent his career with his feet firmly planted in many different realms of photography: commercial, editorial, celebrity, documentary, social justice and street. His unique and raw style allows him to create and develop images that are strikingly filled with passion and emotion of the human spirit. Images that challenge us to think outside box in order to bridge and foster a better outcome for people and things he’s passionate about.
Louis’ work as photojournalist, and professional photographer includes 5 photography books, 8 magazine covers, 9 local and national ad campaigns and 11 photography awards to his credit. He has worked on many projects for a wide array of local, community based organizations as well as Fortune 500 companies. As an artist and photographer his work has been featured in 8 galleries, 17 newspapers, 15 magazines, and 27 art shows. His abstract paintings and street photography now hang in several homes across the United States, and 10 countries. To his credit he’s owned an art gallery, curated and produced 14 art shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and New York.
A passionate social justice photojournalist and activist rallying for Black Lives Matter, fair housing, homelessness, women’s rights, youth, seniors, racial/ ethnic minorities, through his 12 year community work -Project KengiKat, which has served more than 2,000 homeless individuals in one of the most impacted cities in the world, Los Angeles, California, Louis is dedicated to using his gifts and talents as an artist, activist, advocate, photographer and speaker to not just influence conversations, but serve as an agent of change for them. He believes that powerful, real life storytelling through photography is able to usher in a better understanding about humanity.
Why is this important to us?
This collaboration between Louis and Sterling has been over a year in the making. As artists, creatives, photographers, friends and Black men, we've grown so much over this time and have been through so much as well. This book is a direction reflection of of our growth, progress and passion as Black men, as well as a tribute to the strength, courage and wisdom of Black men in general. As stated in the description this books pays homage to Black culture through the eyes of two friends from two different generations. It is a testament of our commitment to the work we're building together, our friendship and our complete respect, love, and admiration for our families, heritage and culture.
