Reeves Needs Life-Saving Treatment
Donation protected
If you have followed our journey with Reeves, you know that he came to us 18 months ago weighing 6 pounds, skin and bones, no hair, and barely alive. Against all odds, he flourished and became a 20-pound gorgeous little floofy boy. We went from fostering Reeves to adopting him - we could not imagine our lives without him.
Over the past few months, he began experiencing odd skin issues which the vet thought were allergies. He was put on Apoquel, but the itching never stopped, and Cytopoint made it worse.
A week ago, he was chewing on his foot and when I looked at it, it was swollen, purple, and infected. His skin started developing lesions on his head, neck, and tummy. We took him to the vet and tests showed a bacterial infection, and he was put on strong meds to attack it. However, he did not get better; he got worse.
Reeves stopped eating, was restless, the lesions got bigger, and he was running a fever. We rushed him to the vet on April 5th because when he woke up, he had a huge mass under the skin on his neck. By the time we arrived, his temperature was 105.5, which is very dangerous territory for a dog. He had to be admitted because they needed to get his fever down and figure out what was going on.
Today, April 6th, they have narrowed it down to a Mediated Immune Disorder and will be doing a bone biopsy to get a more definitive answer to which autoimmune disease it is so he can be treated with the proper medications. He will also be on meds for the rest of his life.
His medical bills are piling up and we are looking at over $4000 so far, and while we will do ANYTHING for our dogs, vets do not work for free, understandably!
I am usually doing fundraisers for the rescue I am with, or for others in need. Now, I am swallowing my pride and asking for help. Reeves has been through so much in his life due to severe neglect, malnourishment, and abandonment - he beat the odds to become an amazing, beautiful dog and now he is in crisis. He's come too far to go through something so horrific again; he's a fighter.
Please consider donating to his vet bill, every dollar helps! This sudden expense was not in any way expected and if we can't get Reeves the treatment he needs, he could possibly not survive this.
Thank you in advance, and know that EVERY DOLLAR is going to his medical bill and treatment. I am happy to update this GoFundMe with pics of all invoices as they arrive. And please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
