At the beginning of the year, my Mom was diagnosed with IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis), which is a rare and serious irreversible lung disease. The cause of this disease is unknown, and the only hope for a full recovery is a lung transplant. My Mom was only 5 months away from retiring from the Port Jervis City School District when she was first hospitalized. She was admitted to NYU Langone Health on May 19, 2018, and is currently undergoing testing to determine her eligibility as a transplant recipient. My Dad rode to NYU in the ambulance with my Mom, and has been by her side ever since. He does not plan to come home until she is released, so he has been staying in a hotel in NYC and travelling to and from the hospital each day by cab. My parents have always been there for us kids and their grandkids, and now we want to help them. We are trying to raise money to help lighten the financial burden my parents are facing, so that they can focus on getting my Mom healthy and back home. All money raised will be spent on medical bills, hotel accommodations for my Dad, and other expenses incurred while we wait for a transplant. My Mom is the kindest, strongest, most optimistic person I’ve ever known, and she has every intention of getting better and coming back home to us all. Thank you so much for helping to make this happen.
